Why I love snow

OK, so it’s no big secret that I actually prefer warm weather.  I grew up in the Chicago area and had all the snow I need for a lifetime.  If it were simply a matter of my personal preference, I would live where it never snows.  There are a lot of reason why to not love snow:  it’s cold, it makes the roads slippery, you have to shovel it, it’s cold, it sticks to your windshield wipers, did I say it’s cold?

So forget all those thingsnows.  There is one reason why I love snow.  I love to watch it falling.  I love the way it looks when it is fresh on the ground.  I love it for what it represents.  The Bible says this:

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

A snowstorm represents the millennial kingdom of Jesus Christ.  The snow covers the earth with a blanket of pure white.  All the dirt and ugliness of this world are covered.  The white, representing the righteousness of Christ, covers all our sin.  When I look out over a field covered with fresh snow, I am reminded of what Jesus has done for me.  My life was scarred with filth and bad habits, but in August of 1983 I gave my life to Jesus Christ and His righteousness covered all my sin.  I am totally forgiven!  Now, I look forward to the time Jesus will return and His righteousness will reign over all creation.

So, while I put on another layer, lace up the boots and get the snow shovel out, I can still be very thankful for the quiet reminder from God that He loved me enough to cover my sin.  Thank you, Lord.  That is why I love snow.
